space mag is a study in how the internet influences nonprofessional artists to create art, as well as the idea of "informal" art (that is, the idea of transient context-based art that isn't created for exhibition). it is a generative magazine that works towards creating a dialog between different mediums and people, to be viewed as a web-based landscape of group thought process. it attempts to be, in that sense, a "living" work of art. issues are not time-constrained and are prompted initially by a quote/phrase (that is expected to be interpreted for contemporary art/living, not investigated from their original source) and continues to evolve as a stream of collective consciousness that is neither recyclable nor monumental.

FAQ
- what is the prompt for issue #1?
a machine for living
- what is the context in which i should evaluate the prompt?
prompts are meant to be considered without any (historical) context/example, and are meant to inspire new work and applications as opposed to homages.
- what kind of art should i submit?
space mag aims to include any/all modes of art, including video, audio, illustration, and photography - basically anything you can think of to submit. however, there is more focus/interest on "low" means of creating, that is, webcam photography, sketches, collages, image appropriation, etc.
- what do you mean by 'stream of consciousness'?
space mag works to get rid of the idea of isolated magazine features and towards image/writing that reacts to each other. ideally, entries will begin to move away from responding to the original prompt and instead become responses to other entries. in that sense, the end product would be a collective visual movement from point a to b- c- d- e- f- etc.
- what do you mean by 'original' work?
we are trying to step away from blogging/microblogging and the mass amount of images that get recycled across the internet for their aesthetic quality. space mag is interested in featuring art with a process behind it, and that works towards exploring an idea or concept within a specific creative space.
